 What Should You Post on Twitter?


  • Stay on topic – A strong theme to your Tweets really helps. What do you want to be known for? Have an opinion.
  • Give valuable information to your clients and customers – What do they want to know? Educate, inform and entertain them. Post information you think they’d find useful or interesting – links to articles or video, share quotes, relevant news, books you’ve read, opinions, tips.
  • “Curate” good content – Share posts and articles by others that you think your readers will find valuable or back up your approach.
  • Don’t sell – 80% of the content you share should be non-promotional. This is not the place for a stream of high-pressure sales messages. Think of it as an online networking event. Promote your services occasionally but this should not be the main event.
  • Share links to your blog entries
  • Promote eBooks, podcasts or webinars within your field

  • Between 8:00-10:00 am and 4:00-6:00 pm

Engagement Tips for Twitter


  • Use no more than three hashtags per tweet – Using too many hashtags makes your tweet hard to read and it lessens the impact.
  • Keep it short – tweets of less than 100 characters receive more engagement than longer ones. So consider condensing your tweets and use a URL shortener.
  • Tweets containing image links have 5x higher engagement rate
  • Ask for retweets – tweets specifically asking followers to “retweet” had 12 times higher retweet rates
  • Do not buy followers – Often these followers are not targeted and may trigger a spam filter
  • Do not follow too many people at once – Your account may trigger a spam filter and you’ll be disabled
  • Do not self-promote too often — This is a sure-fire way to alienate anyone that followed you or to make it hard to even grow your following
